I've been based in Sewickley for years, and I still get asked the same question all the time: "I'm coming in for an appointment — what should I do while I'm here?" So I finally wrote it all down.
Sewickley is one of those towns that sneaks up on you. It's small enough to feel like a neighborhood but packed with genuinely good food, locally owned shops, and things worth making a day of. Here's where I actually send people.
Where to Eat
Vivo Kitchen
This is my personal favorite. The menu changes almost weekly, which means it's always worth coming back. You can enjoy your meal on the beautiful back patio or at the small bar, where the fire pit adds to the cozy atmosphere. Make a reservation if you can.
Sewickley Quarter
A true neighborhood staple. Always a treat — the food is always excellent and the staff is great. They do a seasonal menu with rotating specials, and it's the kind of place you feel like a regular even your first time in.
Torogoz
One of the more interesting things to happen to the Sewickley food scene in a while. The menu is diverse and it's a great pick when you're in the mood for something different.
Mambo Italia
Consistently one of the top-rated spots in town. Perfect for a date night or a longer dinner with someone you actually want to linger with.
Mediterra Cafe
This charming cafe is your neighborhood breakfast and lunch spot. The cruffins are worth the trip alone — they come in seasonal varieties and they go fast on weekends.
Big Sewickley Creek Brewery
Imagine sitting beneath the shade of the game lands along a babbling creek, drinking craft beer brewed for a local like you. About 30 minutes from downtown Pittsburgh along the waters of the historic Big Sewickley Creek, they regularly have food trucks and live music on weekends. Super relaxed, super local.
Things to Do
Sweetwater Center for the Arts
Located in Sewickley's historic Old Post Office building built in 1910, Sweetwater features a marble spiral staircase, original woodwork, and historic charm throughout. They offer nearly 400 classes, workshops, and lectures annually — everything from ceramics and watercolor to BYOB paint nights. A great activity for a girls' day before or after your appointment.
McLaughlin Distillery
A locally crafted spirits experience right here in Sewickley. Worth a stop if you appreciate handmade, small-batch products. They offer tastings and you can take bottles home.
Sewickley Village
Honestly, just walking Broad Street is worth it. The charming streets are lined with unique shops and beautiful architecture, with a friendly community that adds to the spirit of the place. The boutiques here are independently owned and actually interesting — you won't find what's at the mall.
Riverfront Park
A short walk from the village and a great spot to decompress, especially in the warmer months. Beautiful view of the Ohio River and an easy place to spend an afternoon.
Make a Day of It — Start With Me
If you're already coming to Sewickley for a facial, waxing, or lash and brow service, you're already halfway to a perfect day. Book your appointment in the morning, grab lunch at Mediterra or Vivo, walk the village, and finish with a glass of something at the brewery or a paint night at Sweetwater. That's a really good Thursday.
